A new residential development was proposed on Harpur Street in Benoni. The proposed development would comprise of 60 residential units (apartments and flats).

The parking requirements as set out by the Ekurhuleni Town Planning Scheme of 2014 makes provision for 1.5 parking bays/unit for residential buildings. In the case of proposed residential development, approximately 90 (60 units x 1.5 bays) parking bays would have to be provided in order to conform to the Town Planning Scheme’s requirements. Due to space constraints only 59 parking bays could be achieved; at a rate of 0.98 bays/ unit.

Koleko was appointed to conduct a parking relaxation study and to motivate a parking relaxation for the proposed new development on Harpur Street, in terms of the Ekurhuleni Town Planning Scheme parking requirement. The study was conducted over a 4 week period and the findings of the parking study was submitted to the council for approval. It was subsequently approved by the officials.
